Yalova University School of Foreign Languages aims to support the balanced development of students’ four core language skills. Across all proficiency levels, particular emphasis is placed on developing the productive skills of speaking and writing to help students express themselves orally and in writing. These skills are supported through classroom activities and Speaking and Writing Mini Tasks. They are assessed through these tasks and the speaking and writing sections of the midterm and final examinations. Note: Scoring rubrics for speaking and writing may vary according to the task type and the targeted skills. For example, problem–solution and compare-and-contrast writing tasks may require different assessment criteria. Rubrics are therefore developed to reflect the specific characteristics of each speaking and writing task. The samples provided below do not represent the full range of assessment tools used.
